Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be Indigenous to apply to VNHS?

No. You do not need to be Indigenous but, priority may be given to applicants with Indigenous ancestry depending on the housing or program type.

Currently my need for housing is extremely high; does VNHS offer emergency housing?

No. VNHS does not provide emergency housing.

Can I call VNHS to inquire about the status of my application?

No, applicants must contact BC Housing Applicant Services at 604-433-2218 to inquire about the status of their application.

Note: applicants must update their application every 6 months to remain active on the BC Housing waiting list.

Do you prioritize applications?

Yes. We prioritize based on application date and / or need for housing.

Can I apply even if I was a previous tenant?

Yes, but all applicants must follow the same application process.

Can I apply even if I live outside of Vancouver?

Yes, anyone can apply!

Can I provide reference letters or letter of support for my application?

Yes, applicants may provide letters of support or reference at any time, but must submit this information by fax, mail, email or in person.

What type of housing units do you provide?

We provide subsidized housing for low income families, youth, seniors, women only, singles and people living with disabilities or needing extra supports.
